MY TAKE ON THE PARK
THE MINNESOTA TWINS ARE MY TEAM, SO AFTER MY INITIAL VISIT BACK
IN THE EARLY 90s THE ONLY REASON TO RETURN WAS TO SEE MY TEAM. WELL, IT SEEMS THE TWINS AGREE WITH MY OPINION
OF THE PLACE BECAUSE SINCE MY FIRST VISIT THE TWINS HAVE DONE SOMETHING INCREDIBLE. THEY KEEP YOU FROM GOING INTO THE
GAME UNTIL YOU HAVE TO. IT DOES NOTHING TO IMPROVE MY OPINION ON THE PARK, BUT THE TRIP WAS MORE ENJOYABLE.
THERE ARE A FEW WAYS TO GET TO THE METRODOME AND REALLY, DRIVING
MAY NOT BE THE BEST WAY. PARKING AT THE DOME IS $15 AND THERE SEEMS TO BE SUFFICIENT PARKING TO ACCOMMODATE THE CROWDS.
BUT WITH THE NEWLY INSTALLED LIGHT RAIL STOPPING RIGHT OUTSIDE THE METRODOME, THE LIGHT RAIL IS THE WAY TO GO. A
THOUGHT WOULD BE TO PARK AT THE MALL AND TAKE THE LIGHT RAIL, SAVING A FEW DOLLARS AND SOME TRAFFIC PROBLEMS.
ONCE INSIDE THE METRODOME
THINGS BEGIN TO TUMBLE, THE CONCOURSE LEVEL IS EXTREMELY CLEAN BUT THE AISLE WAYS ARE A BIT NARROW IF THE GAME IS CROWDED.
CONCESSION STANDS SET UP IN THE CONCOURSE AREA MAKE THE CROWDED AREAS MORE CONGESTED.
ONCE INTO THE SEATING AREA THINGS CONTINUE TO GET WORSE, THE
SEATING IS TIGHT, THE AISLE WAYS NARROW AND THE ROWS SEEMINGLY ENDLESS. MAKING A BATHROOM RUN WHEN SITTING IN SEAT 14
COULD BE A 10 MINUTE PROCESS JUST TO GET TO THE END OF THE ROW. IF YOU ARE TALLER THAN 5'5" YOUR KNEES WILL MOST
LIKELY BE UNDER THE ARMS OF THE PERSON IN FRONT OF YOU, AND IF YOU ARE WALKING UP THE AISLE AND SOMEONE IS WALKING DOWN
WITH A COUPLE OF BEVERAGES, SOME WILL BE GETTING WET.
WHEN LOOKING AT THE TWINS TICKET PLANS, YOU WILL SEE A
$4 TICKET FOR CERTAIN GAMES, A $4 TICKET FOR A MAJOR LEAGUE GAME IS UNHEARD OF, BUT AT THE METRODOME IT ONLY SEEMS TO
PUT YOU IN THE SAME AREA CODE. THE $4 SEATS ARE OVER THE RIGHT FIELD WALL AND HANG OVER THE PLAYING SURFACE. ANY BALL
TO RIGHT FIELD IS LOST ON THE WAY, MAKING ME REALIZE THE CURTAINS IN THE UPPER DECK AREN'T SUCH A BAD THING.
SADLY FOR BASEBALL, BEATING UP THE METRODOME IS ALMOST TOO EASY SO LET ME
SAY SOME POSITIVE THINGS. AS MENTIONED THE PARK IS VERY CLEAN.
THE DOME DOG IS A GIANT HOT DOG THAT IS EDIBLE AND AFTER ONE YOU WON'T NEED
ANOTHER.
THE TWINS RESPECT THE GAME AND KEEP THE BETWEEN INNING PROMOTIONS
TO A MINIMUM. BETWEEN INNINGS THERE ARE A FEW CROWD VIDEOS THAT MAKE FUNNY FACES, LOOK AT PEOPLE WITH VARIOUS TWINS GARB,
AND THE KISS CAM. THE FANS GET REALLY INTO THIS, ESPECIALLY WHEN ONE OF THE TWO ON THE SCREEN REFUSES TO KISS, AN ALL OUT
BOO IS LET OUT. IT REALLY IS A LOT OF FUN AND KIND OF THE SECOND MOST ENJOYABLE THING ABOUT HEADING OUT TO THE DOME. THE
BEST PART OF THE DOME? LEAVING! LEAVING THE DOME ISN'T WHAT IS SO GREAT, IT IS THE FACT THAT THIS BUILDING, HELD UP BY AIR
PRESSURE, THROWS YOU OUT ONTO THE SIDEWALK AFTER THE GAME. SOMETHING TO STICK AROUND FOR AT THE END OF EVERY GAME.
Of the 40 Parks I have visited, I've made a change and feel that
the Twins no longer deserve to be in last place. I think they realize just how bad a ballpark this is and they keep the fans
outside until game time. Plus, once inside, thery do not pipe in cowbell sounds or fake noise to excite the crowd. they do
that in Tropicana Field and well, that knocked the Trop down below the Metrodome.
Plus, the Metrodome is in its final year so we only have a few
more games to worry about a ball getting lost in the white roof or a ball being misdirected by a fly ball after hitting off
a speaker.
The concern with playing outdoors is the weather in Minneapolis in April
or late october, it can be tough.
So, in the final few games in the Dome, forget about what
could go wrong and enjoy the Kiss Cam and have fun watching Twins fans get thrown onto the sidewalk as they leave the
Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome.
